Achieva Credit Union Donates Property and Demolition Funding to Habitat Pinellas

CLEARWATER, FL – December 8, 2011 – Amidst the backdrop of the demolition and rubble remains of a severely blighted house, Achieva Credit Union officials presented the deed to a house and property on Park Street and a $9,000 check to Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County to fund its demolition. Prior to the check presentation on Thursday afternoon, Habitat Pinellas site inspectors had determined that the deteriorated house would cost more to repair than rebuild. Motivated to support Habitat Pinellas' ability to make use of the property, Achieva agreed to fund the demolition cost as well.
Achieva officials Perry Goodbrake, Vice President of Risk Management, and Mary Jones, Vice President of Loss Prevention, presented the check to Ron Spoor, Chief Operating Officer for Habitat Pinellas, and Vice President of Development Steve Lightburn. The donations provide a land resource for Habitat Pinellas to build a safe, affordable house for a future qualified home owner candidate in the Clearwater community.
"We are happy to support Habitat for Humanity's work, which helps revitalize the communities we serve," said Gary Regoli, Achieva's President and CEO. "Achieva's property donation and demolition funding enables Habitat Pinellas to replace this dilapidated house with one that will positively impact the entire neighborhood while also helping a struggling family obtain a secure and affordable home."
The house demolition is anticipated to be completed before the end of this week. Spoor said the property will remain in Habitat Pinellas' land bank until a viable homeowner candidate has been identified.
